Suffragette’s Anne-Marie Duff wants a movie made showing women of colour in the suffrage fight


Suffragette might have been made to show the efforts of women in the early 1900s to gain the right to vote, but it has found itself at the centre of a race row for not showing those women of colour who were part of the effort.

Anne-Marie Duff’s character Violet is based on one of the original white suffragettes and is seen balancing her working life in a laundry, raising her children and fighting for women’s rights, but she doesn’t agree with those critics saying Sarah Gavron’s film fails to include the efforts made by women from ethic minorities at the time.
